in my backyard we had two main gardens, one was a huge one with five rows of plants- mostly vegatables. my sister and i would run through our backyard, picking peas off the bush and eating them. climbing trees, and coming down to grab a stalk of rhubarb and tehn climing back up to out favorite branch. I remember in the spring feeling the warmth coming back and getting excited to plant flowers with my mom in our flower garden. i remember in the summer being forced to eat as much asparagus as humanly possible before the plant went to seed and took over our whole back yard. i rember going to the plant store and getting to pick out what fruits and vegatables we were going to plant that year... i think i always wanted something exotic that wouldnt grow in our dry climate and not understanding why. i remeber seeing the peonie buds covered in ants, and then blooming and the overpowering smell as i walked out the front door.
