another juxtaposition....

...of versailles and the sacre coeur.

versailles displayed over-the-top extravagance. everything was dedicated to worship Louis XIV: the statues, the mirrors, the gigantic windows, all designed to focus attention on the sun king.....it was hard to grasp the extent of the wealth of the french monarchy and the same thought kept running through my head, "was it satisfying to the soul? was it enough?"

then, at night, i went to my first catholic mass at the sacre oceur. much in the same way, everything at the sacre oceur was devoted towards worshipping christ....an interesting parallel runs between the two and still the same thought kept running through my head, "is it satisfying to the soul? is it enough?"

whatever the answer, these two places are now etched into time. they have left their mark because they focused their passion into a single pursuit. much in the same way, how can we etch a part of ourselves through the art we make? how can we endure through time while satisfying our souls?
